You can stay in touch with all your friends and co-workers at the same time, without having to run more than one application. The software lets you join channels, chat with people, and take part in voice chats from the same window.

At the time of writing, Ripcord is offered completely free of charge, but a price tag will be introduced sometime in the future, but you will still be able to use it for free, only with a nag screen. The software is compatible with all modern 64-bit Windows versions, and it's also available for Linux and Mac OS X. It doesn't have any special requirements, and it doesn't make heavy use of your computer's resources.

The developers describe Ripcord as a chat application that time-traveled from 1998 and learned to work in modern society, and it has to be said that it did a decent job. Though a bit rough around the edges, the application's user interface is quite easy to follow. Its controls are laid out in such a way that you won't have to waste time looking around just so that you can add a new person to your friends list. The accounts you connect to are listed in a column, on the left side of the interface, and you can access anything that comes with them, from channels and projects to friends and co-workers.

Although the application looks pretty simple, some operations require a bit more effort than you would expect, due to how it is built. For example, if you want to link to a Discord account, you have to walk the extra mile and open up a web inspector to retrieve an authorization key from your online account. Fortunately, the procedure is not too complicated, and the application provides you with step-by-step instructions.

You can enjoy almost all of the advantages you're used to from Discord and Slack. This includes joining or creating channels, including voice channels, exchanging files, looking for any mentions of your name and much more. If you have to keep an eye on ongoing projects, you can connect to one or more Slack accounts and monitor everything from Ripcord's interface.
